Drumidi V3

Drumidi V3 is the latest and most advanced version of an electronic drum module designed to overcome the traditional limitations of compact drum trigger systems. The architecture has been reworked from the ground up: instead of routing raw audio signals from every pad to the central unit, each drum uses a small dedicated readout module that performs local signal analysis and transmits only the final result. This distributed approach improves scalability, reduces latency, and enables a much more flexible system layout.

A key advantage of the new front-end architecture is programmability. Each pad can operate as an independent MIDI instrument, allowing direct connection to a PC via USB, or it can participate in a daisy-chain configuration where multiple units pass trigger data forward through the chain. This makes the system suitable both for compact setups and for larger multi-pad installations without sacrificing timing performance.

The head unit has also been significantly upgraded. It now uses a more capable audio codec, a refined user interface, and a streamlined multi-microcontroller design where three interconnected MCUs share tasks in parallel. This improves responsiveness and keeps the system stable even when handling multiple concurrent operations. Trigger data is transferred through a dedicated MCU with eight inputs and one output, achieving sub-millisecond propagation delay even in daisy-chain mode.

Sound generation is handled by the main MCU, which can start a new note in less than 0.5 ms. The system supports sample loading for up to 127 voices from either USB storage or SD card into an onboard 1 Gb ROM, enabling up to 110 simultaneous sounds when playing from internal memory. In practical terms, this means the module can support complex multi-voice arrangements with high polyphony, while still remaining responsive for live performance.

Drumidi V3 also includes two stereo inputs, or four mono inputs, each with independent volume control. It offers the core functionality expected from a modern commercial drum module, including presets, a metronome, PC MIDI connectivity, and compatibility with standard MIDI devices for external sound triggering. Each pick-up board includes both hardware and software configuration options, allowing each pad to be assigned a specific MIDI note and behave consistently regardless of where it is connected in the system.

The result is a highly flexible electronic drum platform that combines low latency, modular expansion, and advanced MIDI behavior in a compact architecture. It supports pads, pedals, and other analog or digital triggers, making it suitable for custom electronic percussion systems, experimental instruments, and scalable performance rigs.
