DomoSens – air quality

DomoSens is a large didactic project targeting developing and market launch of systems for in-door air quality monitoring. The project was conducted in collaboration with schools as part of the ‘Alternating School and Work’ program for high schools. The participants divided into smaller teams according their specialty have been dealing with real-life problems to the best of their abilities – starting from marker survey to final product design and production. More details about the entire project can be found elsewhere: https://fbkjunior.fbk.eu/projects/detail/domosens-2/

The project is done within the activity of gas sensor research group in which I was responsible for the technical aspects of sensor operation and read-out.

The hardware component of the project involved the development and integration of small modules equipped with custom gas sensors to monitor indoor air quality. The sensors primarily targeted two main gases: CO (a byproduct of fuel combustion) and methane (the main component of natural gas). The electronics produced were intended to be incorporated into different packages designed by the team.

The main functions of the electronics were as follows:

  • Powering and controlling the operational conditions of the gas sensors
  • Signal filtering and read-out
  • Interface with a front-end application for data visualization and analysis (via Bluetooth)

The Domosens team presented their work at several exhibitions, including Maker Faire.
